People are, as usual, calling for frank discussions of race.  Which would be, as always, a terrible mistake.  “But,” you protest, “isn’t honesty the best policy?”  No.  If you believe that, you haven’t thought it through:

Honesty is the best policy for one who is not hateful, stupid, or insane.  Otherwise silence is the best policy.

Of course, hateful and stupid and insane people cannot keep silent.  So set that aside.  What America needs is a frank lecture, by someone compassionate, intelligent, and rational.
