Japan may have a very bad summer.

Edohiguma linked to an excellent Japan Times article on their nuclear shutdown and the coming power demands of summer.  Hopefully they’ll make it through without power loss and deaths to heat stroke.

I’ve always expected Japan, however grudgingly, to return to nukes.  The article writer, Isamu Mishima, perfectly describes why:

…as European countries are contiguous and connected by feeder lines, one country can always buy electricity from another country such as France–a nuclear giant in terms of power generation–should renewable energy outputs fall short due to weather. These options are impossible for Japan as an island nation.

Not Japan Times. Japan News. Formerly known as Yomiuri Shinbun.

Japan Times would NEVER write anything even remotely positive about nukes. It wouldn’t fit into their agenda.
