xpat memorably complains that my musings on hell are much less depressing than commentaries on current events. I see what he means. Don’t know what can be done about it, though. There’s a reason Cassandra was insane.

It wasn’t a complaint, just a rueful observation.
We all have our threshold moments. The Terri Schiavo case in 2005 was a threshold moment for me: the decision itself, and then the general cultural reaction among the intelligentsia, that anyone opposed to nutrition and hydration for her was a crazed religious fanatic. I had the strong hit then that the State was something brutal, hostile, implacable, alien, that it was not my country or culture anymore. Certain legal decision still evince the same reaction in me. I don’t know if it is a justified or useful reaction, but there it is.
Yeah, I know what you mean. And I wouldn’t give two figs for “elite” America’s hatred and disdain…except they also won’t leave us alone. Modern western “intelligentsia” is actually the stupidest congregration of people in history, but they make up for that by becoming increasingly vile.
just found a book for the Worm. “There’s Adventure in Atomic Energy” by Julian May, Printed in 1963. Hardback, a few years older than me, been sitting in the bookcase since I was young. loved the projects inside it, but never could build them, USA export regulations and such.
I love that the Boy Scouts once had an “Atomic Energy” merit badge. Of course, that’s “had”, past-tense. Radiophobia strangled their efforts, just like yours.
But the plus is that I did do some training for my government ticket at Pelindaba. Just a hill and a minefield away from the Z facility. Most boring documents ever – those marked Top Secret.
