I assume that people have read about the recent events at Penn State: the alleged sexual abuse in the football program (not by Paterno, the head coach there for decades), the cover-up, the cover-up crashing down, Paterno’s decision to retire at the end of the season, the Trustees’ decision to sack him and the university president immediately, and the student riots.
I propose a simple solution: end the NCAA and collegiate athletic programs. Universities will, overall, save money. More resources will be available for the academic side of things. There isn’t a real downside other than more resources available for administrative bureaucrats as well.
And then people can do things that are productive on Saturdays and during March.
Uhmmm, no.
The best take I’ve seen on this so far is here:

Now that I will no longer be cheering for Penn State on Saturdays, I have only one thing to say:
“War Eagle!”
Just kiddin’ W.O.R.M.
ROLL TIDE.
For once in my life, I don’t feel that weird about not being into sports.
Being the red-blooded American male that I am, I think I’ll check out some more Mahler Youtubes now. Awwriiiiiiiiiight!
