The truth would set them free…from everything they want.

James Taranto isn’t wrong often.  But man, today he is really wrong.  He does his usual fine job of raking the Left over the coals.  The main topic this time is advertising, and it’s an excellent read.  But he closes with this jawdropper:

The left would benefit politically if it learned to be as honest as corporate America is.

What…the…?  That’s insane!  Where’d that come from?!  The Left truly believes it should control our lives and resources.  They’d do better politically if they admitted it?  That is nuts.  When what you’re selling is crap, truth ain’t gonna boost your sales.  Not even if you’re selling it for fertilizer.

More accurately, the Left would benefit politically if it was both more truthful and quit being the Left.  Until they quit being statist bullies, truth is the last thing that will benefit them politically.

How many people would live as servile slaves? You yourself opined on this earlier in your blog about Scandinavians who thought that Americans shouldn’t complain about too many taxes.

Honestly, you think a lot of their supporters wouldn’t agree with them? It’d set them up in comfort for life.

All of their supporters would agree with them. And if everyone was being starkly honest about intents and desires, they’d have 25% of America. The entire 53% of net tax payers would be against them. It’s only by pretending to be moderate or even…ha ha…fiscally conservative that they win national elections.
