My employer has upgraded computer security so much I was unable to even open my email from home. So couldn’t get that Norton link to the digital condom needed to practice “safe text”.
And, we had a “fault study” (a commissioning survey) on a new beamline today. That made it a nonstop action day. Didn’t get to speak with our IT guys about the login problems. Hopefully tomorrow won’t be quite so frantic.
So, this post is probably it for the day. Posting to WordPress with no virus protection is one thing, surfing the net for topics is another.
It seems like all my electronics are in revolt lately. Hopefully your computer overlords are treating you more mercifully.
Bahahahaaaa!
Oops… sorry.. Monday got to me.
I walked into my office this morning, punched the button to power up my ‘puter, promptly heard a noise I hope to never hear again coming from the box and saw smoke.
I can still smell it in my office.
Did I happen to mention that I work for an organization that does EVERYTHING via computer?
I am praying we can salvage the HD!
Fried PSU…oh yay…
Sorry to hear it. I still haven’t info-dived into my last two orphaned hard drives. If I ever go back to script-writing, though, will have to go fish.
HAH!

And:
“The Buffett Rule Is Unfair”
http://www.cnbc.com/id/44584116
Which it is, of course; no one really thought he was saying anything to help someone else, did they…? This of course plays into my previous comment which mentioned, IIRC, a ‘flavor’ of regressive taxation; that’s built on the financial instrument issues mentioned also, which Warren abuses extensively.
In truth, Buffett wants a punitive tax to prevent people from gaining wealth, not to affect already existing wealth.
It amazes me that we even have to listen to him on taxes while his company has failed to pay its taxes for a decade and owes 1 billion. (They’re not paying so their lawyers can negotiate it down, FYI.)
As soon as Obama makes the Buffett rule mean: take Berkshire Hathaway away and sell it to the highest bidder to get Sam’s money, I’ll agree.
Market declines; flight to treasuries; China declines; dollar strengthens; ah the smell of the Ameri-centric global economy! At least if we burn, everyone goes with us.
It may suck here but it sucks more ‘over there’!
Ah, to be the big fish in an ever-shrinking pond…
Why Norton Bloatware? there are plenty of free alternatives for home use.
As for the mail paranoia, I sympathise with you……..
My computer overlords are 3 and 4 feet tall, respectively, and they don’t let me surf much. “You’re not on your LOG again are you?” the younger one always asks.
No. I’m not on my log. I’m just checking email, okay, evil monkey?
Don’t know if your kids are too old (or think they’re too old) for “Schoolhouse Rock”, but Amazon has it for 14 bucks. I’m about to give a copy to an officemate’s granddaughter. Any time spent watching it is an improvement over almost any other activity.
Hey thanks for reminding me about that collection; I’ll have to dig it out of the DVD cupboard. It’s been a couple years, so it’ll be like new again . . .
