It’s safe to say that Annette John-Hall and I don’t see eye-to-eye, politically. But just as I reacted to an element of Mayor Nutter’s speech, so did she.
Nutter expressed in no uncertain terms the sentiment that so often shackles black people – that the unlawful actions of a few smear everyone else. Something whites never have to fear.
Er…that’s not quite right. We white Southern men are permanently besmeared in the eyes of millions of other Americans. We’re guilty, no proof required. I have seen coastal and big-city Americans, from California to New York, twitch and wince when informed that I’m a ‘Bama boy. Funny how they never had a problem with Robert Byrd.
Still, props to the lady.
Somebody should do a re-make of “To Kill a Mockingbird”, but with an African American cast. I’ll bet the Sharpton/Jackson types would die of apoplexy, right before our eyes.
Oh my Lord…you know I’m not politically correct, but even I have to denounce…that…it’s so…
…crap. It’s smitten me. It’s brilliant. And here’s the setting to make it work:
Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwe.
I see nothing wrong at all with setting the story in Chicago’s South Side, actually.
Would not work there. The average Zimbawean is just too polite and behaved. They put up with Bob, though the joke is that most of them are next door working…..
