Ha ha, our loser is lots taller than Germany’s loser. (see picture)

mountainbear sent a link that took forever to load for me.  It’s a good one.  “The Generation of Losers”.

Boy, it’s chock-full of big ideas.

…the leftwing dogma of well-being and aid harms way more than it helps.

The things you tax, shrink.  The things you subsidize, grow.  Give government money to the poor and the indolent and the unmarried parent?  You get more of them.  Call me callous or hateful or bigoted for speaking the truth, but I’m still speaking the truth.

God, the willful stupidity of the left.  They argue for subsidizing education or whatever, because that means we get more of it.  But point out that we also subsidizing poor behavior and we’re the jerks?

It’s late and I’m pissed.  In fact, societally (is that a word?) it may be too late and it doesn’t matter if I’m pissed.  Unless I can smoke enough to get lung cancer in the next ten years, I now expect to see the fall of western civilization.

Didn’t really expect that until the last few days.  A pleasant surprise would sure be a pleasant surprise, right about now.

Don’t hold your breath.

There is discussion in Germany and Austria that kids who fail a course in school could still advance into the next level. It goes so far that here some Greenist suggested that even if the kid has 3 Fs in the annual report, it should still be allowed to advance. Not matter where those Fs are in. So if it’s 3 Fs in German, math and, I don’t know, English, then the kid should still be able to advance.

And this dumbing down has been going on for decades.

Years ago, when I was still in school, the left was screaming “we need more people with university degrees!”. Now we have them and… uh… the universities are overflowing and people taking useful courses are a minority. Sure, the medical faculty gets overrun, but that’s not new. And they weed them out quickly. But hten you have my favorite example: psychology. In Vienna we have 2,000+ students who start with psychology every year. If only half of them graduates that’s 1,000 completely useless people with useless degrees. Mind you, this is Austria, with about 8.5 million inhabitants. We don’t need 1,000 new psychologists every year. What are these people going to work in? Sure, they have their fancy degree, but what do they actually know? What are they skilled in except lying?

It is my belief that Comminity colleges and technical schools will be the true engines of further growth. Universities are rapidly become Finishing Schools for Girls anymore

Nobody paying attention expects the higher education bubble to keep going, that’s for sure.

I guess we are the way we are because we are repressing the memory of something, or maybe our mother didn’t hug us enough or too much, or maybe it’s all sexual…

My young son seems bright and will likely be the kind of person who “should” be getting a four-year degree (or beyond). However, as he gets into high school I will be encouraging him to at least *consider* learning a trade as an alternative. Plumbing, electrical, engine repair and so on are beneficial and potentially very well-paying jobs. Plus they’ll still be in demand even after the fall of Western Civ. [Insert identity politics group here] Studies, maybe not so much.
