Whoof! Commenters are frisky.

Had a bunch of great comments, undeserved by the quality of the party’s host.

Saul was on a roll.  He split a few sides.

You guys are great.

Good night and God bless.

About the 10 Sievert reading at Fukushima, here is a repeat link here:
    http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/01_39.html

And a very crude video (a camera pointed at a TV) but the first part usefully shows the hot spot:

A purty person gives the news here, but it’s long:

Oof. Wrote 10 Sieverts without the “slash hour.” Statistically, 33% of my comments contain something that will make me feel dumb. On the plus side, if I only comment three times a month, I’ll probably only feel dumb about once a month.

  2. crosspatch says:

That those were taking with a gamma camera is the disturbing part for me. Alpha and beta are fairly easily mitigated with distance and light shielding such as clothing. Gamma isn’t.

Considering that these locations are outdoors and they have had a lot of rain since the hydrogen explosions, it would not appear that this is surface contamination in the outside. This would seem to be some major contamination inside that is radiating through the relatively thin metal of the exhaust stacks.

I thought they said this was from pipes. While the dose rate is amazingly high, if it’s confined it shouldn’t be too much of a hazard.

But for the reasons you listed, you’d always see more gamma with a “camera” than the other types of radiation.

Totally unrelated, but of interest to those running a wordpress blog though.

On the Debt Deal — I think you would be interested in Timothy Dalrymple’s recent post.

Interested because of the metaphor he chooses. “Washington has finally taken action. The crisis has passed. … Right? Alas, but no. … We are still borrowing enormous amounts of money, still selling our children into debt slavery through our own spending insanity.”

Now, of course, InstaPundit beat me to the link, so everyone has probably read it already…

  5. D.J. says:

Hey! Found this on a link from Mr. Yon that showed up on Instapundit: The Texan Who Would Be King. http://thetexanwhowouldbeking.wordpress.com/

Looks interesting so far. Very sobering.

What?! Am I clicking on what you linked? It looks hilarious! And serious. Whoever is the writer is seriously skilled.

Gotta read the whole thing, probably repeatedly. Great catch!
