It’d be nice to see the isotopes, but that is an amazing dose rate.
That those were taking with a gamma camera is the disturbing part for me. Alpha and beta are fairly easily mitigated with distance and light shielding such as clothing. Gamma isn’t.
Considering that these locations are outdoors and they have had a lot of rain since the hydrogen explosions, it would not appear that this is surface contamination in the outside. This would seem to be some major contamination inside that is radiating through the relatively thin metal of the exhaust stacks.
I thought they said this was from pipes. While the dose rate is amazingly high, if it’s confined it shouldn’t be too much of a hazard.
But for the reasons you listed, you’d always see more gamma with a “camera” than the other types of radiation.

On the Debt Deal — I think you would be interested in Timothy Dalrymple’s recent post.
Interested because of the metaphor he chooses. “Washington has finally taken action. The crisis has passed. … Right? Alas, but no. … We are still borrowing enormous amounts of money, still selling our children into debt slavery through our own spending insanity.”
