The police are only hours away.
Oh my Lord. Wrote that before diving into the article proper. Now it feels waaaaay to snarky, but the idea was to speed-blog so it stays up.
The assailant surrendered when police finally reached him, but 85 people died before that.
A lone gunman killed almost a hundred people. Not during a war, not in a supposedly “banana republic”, in what’s supposedly one of the most civilized nations in history.
I do not make light of this, but in the interest of saving lives will make a point of it. Let’s get morbid and do the “death pool” thing. What’s the over/under for fatalities like this, in a right-to-carry state? In a U.S. state where thousands of law-abiding Americans exercise their 2nd Amendment rights, what’s the death tally?
Yet this incident will be the same ol’, same ol’. “The authorities” will claim justification for even more draconian measures against the law-abiding.
If they succeed, the next guy might actually break the century mark.
Requiescat in pace, all you murdered souls.
