Very good. Non-comic geeks will have no problems following it, but there are Easter Eggs for us weirdos. The best was the Expo statue that resembled the original Human Torch. “He” (an android) was a member of the Invaders, an Axis-fighting group that included the Sub-Mariner and Cap himself.
And Chris Evans, of course, played Johnny Storm, the second Human Torch, in the Fantastic Four movies before he was Steve Rodgers here. A hilarious touch, though nothing tops The Dark Knight having Bat Manuel as the mayor of Gotham City.
The German Science Babe is always resigned to Germans being the bad guys, but the movie even pointed out that the first victim of the Nazis was Germany itself. And C.A. didn’t fight even fight Nazis here; he fought Hydra and the Red Skull, who killed Nazi officers for, apparently, being insufficiently evil.
And we sat through the credits to see the customary teaser, this one for the Avengers. Oh, we’ll see that one in the theater.
They kept to the pulp origins of Cap pretty well and I liked the film a lot. Thumbs up on this one 🙂
Yep, definitely. The superflicks I’ve seen this year are Cap, Thor, and X-Men: First Class. All were excellent entertainment. Couldn’t get off the butt to see Green Lantern, fortunately I have a big screen for those epic space panoramas.
