Does the President hate us, or is he just crazy?

You’re probably already seen the trial balloon to tax automobile driving by the mile.  That will be in addition to the taxes piled on hydrocarbons from dino droppings all the way to the gas pump.

I’m just adding it to my “city mice, country mice” theory.  I’m not certain Obama actually hates rural people.  But if there’s evidence to the contrary it’s never fallen down my wormhole.

He’s also probably insane.  Of course these two possibilities aren’t mutually contradictory.

The only plus side of this is that farm land that has become 5/10/20 acre homesteads by people working in the Big City wanting a country life would revert back to farm land due to an added tax burden. Some of these people drive 700 plus miles a week to get away from Big City crime and crowding.Of course these are the rich who make 100K or better so they deserve the added burden because they dared to be successful.

What will this mileage tax do to the US Post Office 2 main competitors Fed Ex and UPS? Nothing like the govt taxing competitors out of business.

I suspect there’d have to be a lot of “waivers” given out for this to have a snowball’s chance of success. What about truckers? There’s probably no danger that it’s going to pass. The worry is that our “representatives” want to do it.

    In a word? Yes.

I don’t think it is so much that Obama hates rural people, it’s just that the only time he has ever been in a rural area is when driving through it or flying over it. He has NO idea what it is like to live 20 (or more) miles away from the store.

He says “let them take the bus” which is really a “let them eat cake” moment to a rural person. Maybe it is intentional but what he is doing is moving the people from the rural areas into the cities which means he is eliminating the base of political support of his opposition. Basically he wants to create an America where only rich liberals own the rural areas because he has driven all the poor people into the city because they can’t afford to get to the store or the doctor.

I agree. He’s a spoiled brat, but he doesn’t really seem like a hateful person. And there’s nothing wrong with being ignorant. It’s being willfully ignorant of half the people you’re supposed to be serving that’s the problem.

This has been tried even here in Austria. But even with our relatively short distances (compared to the US) the idea never flew. The resistance from The People was just too high. Any politician pushing for this quickly realized that, forcing this on The People was political suicide. And what’s a politician gotta do should he lose his job? Work like everybody else? Outrageous idea! So they backpaddled quickly.

Even here, with our good public transport, depending on where you live, you’re still very dependent on a car. All those valleys have essentially one bus line going in and out. And that bus goes every hour or so. Not really something useful for all the working people. So they use their own cars.

Austria is one of my favorite vacations spots and I hope before I kick the bucket, I will once again have the money to travel there…Ich leibe Osterreiche.
