at least 45 percent of undergraduates demonstrated “no improvement in critical thinking, complex reasoning, and writing skills in the first two years of college, and 36 percent showed no progress in four years.
Higher education today seems to me exactly like the U.S. auto industry in the 70’s. Shielded from competition by the government, vastly overpriced, incredibly shoddy, and vomiting hatred on anyone contemplating another option. The effing auto unions claimed buying a Volks or Honda or Toyota was “unpatriotic”. Right, like rewarding bullies and below-average goods are an American tradition.
The education dodge is “it’s for the children!” Yes, even at the college level. Remember that Democrats don’t really believe someone’s an adult until the age of twenty-six. Which, for Democrats, is either true or overly-generous.
After two years of college almost half of attendees show no cognitive improvement, and after four years over a third of them still don’t? Wow. But I’d be interested in the regression. Judging by the arguments issuing from “elitely” educated like Obama and Krugman, higher education can apparently retard higher brain functions.
Or maybe it’s just the conscience.
